ParkYoung-gi (박영기)

Korean painter born in Seoul, South Korea, on August 2, 1967. He graduated in art from Hansung University and began his journey as a painter in 1993. In 2004, he embarked on a new venture in the world of culture, showcasing himself as a musician. He received the certificate "Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 82-2." and Important intangible cultural property 12-2. After a decade-long musical career, he predominantly dedicates himself to abstract painting.

Biography

Young-gi Park was born in Seoul on August 2, 1967, to parents Park Rang and Kim Ok-rye. He has two younger brothers and two younger sisters. In 1993, Park graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Hansung University.

In 1994, he received his first international recognition as an artist and was invited to exhibit his works in New York.

In 1995, Park garnered further acclaim in three major art competitions in Korea, including the prestigious Grand Art Exhibition of Korea. He was praised for his artistic contributions and talent.

Throughout his career, Park has participated in significant exhibitions and cultural events both in Korea and abroad. In 1995, he was invited as an international artist to the Korea Modern Art Exhibition in New York.

From 2004 to 2019, Park expanded his artistic repertoire as a member of the Piri flute section at the West Coast Punguhje in Incheon, participating in various events and performances.In 2007, Park's works gained international attention when they were exhibited at the "Ritual of Boats" exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Paris, France. That same year, he also participated in the "Commemorative Ritual of Paik Nam-Jun" in Seoul, solidifying his presence in the Korean art scene.

Artistic Style

The artist combines traditional Korean music and painting into a single artistic expression that allows the perception of his emotions and state of mind. Abstraction facilitates the communion of the artist with his inner self. As a high school student, he developed an interest in meditation, which, together with traditional Korean music, forms the foundation of his work.

The influence of these mental experiences is reflected in the creation of the basis of his work, leveraging the unique characteristics of traditional Korean music, such as slowness and rhythm. His working technique primarily relies on the wet-on-wet painting technique.
