On civility
[edit]First off, just because someone is civil doesn't make them a good fit for the wiki. There are all kinds of ways to civilly drive off productive editors here. If you doubt me, spend some time browsing talk pages in Category:Pseudoscience to see the evidence.
That being said, there's really no good excuse for incivility. We all have "preview" buttons. Maybe this is just me, but I don't understand Internet tough guy syndrome, because I have the opposite. To my infinite regret, there is no preview button for my mouth in real life. Although for the most part I'm pretty decent, I have a quick temper and a sharp tongue that I will never let fall into disuse. Having the opportunity to literally hold my tongue, I'll never type out what my mouth might get me into trouble for.
Some think that being polite means submission. I don't. I think it means being in control in all situations. If you lose your cool, you've lost the game. Oh, damn, now I've lost the game.
