BROKE NBC CAN'T PAY SALARIES

[edit]

In late August, NBC director general Albertus Auchamub said the public broadcaster had run out of money and would possibly not be able to pay salaries from November. The financial situation of the broke broadcaster had not change yet, since the first strike in August.http://www.namibian.com.na/index.php?id=28&tx_ttnewstt_news=102536&no_cache=1

THE DAMAGED CAUSE BY THE POOR SALARIES

[edit]

An NBC worker, who chose to remain anonymous; yesterday sad another strike is on the card if the situation is not properly dealt with. Which might be a repeat of the one that happened in August, which was a six-day countrywide strike over salary increases, crippled the radio and television services of the NBC. Which resulted to the radio listeners being effected plus the TV lovers, and a second strike will not be good for the nation as a whole because we all depend on TV and radio as a source of information.http://www.namibian.com.na/index.php?id=28&tx_ttnewstt_news=102536&no_cache=1

EFFECT ON THE EMPLOYEES

[edit]

It's demoralizing, as much as they want to be productive and plan new projects and programmers as employees, its hard to do so, if your future is uncertain, with NBC. Since one never know where they might end up tomorrow.

THE LOSS OF NBC

[edit]

Aochamub attributed their financial woes to historical and chronic underfunding. The NBC made a loss off N$42.6 million during the financial year ending 31 March 2012, it was reported earlier. One does not know who to blame when it comes to the broadcasting loss, is it director or the financial department. According to the NBC’s preliminary financial results for the 2011/12 period, Government has invested N$105 million for Operational Expenditure (OPEX), which was N$2 million less than the previous period. That amount serves as an annual subsidy to the corporation, but in Government’s view, should be doubled through own revenue by the NBC. This is however not the case, as the NBC currently has a total expenditure that stands at least N$215 million, while it only generated N$63,4 million in revenue. Another factor that haunts the NBC is an inherited debt of about N$300 million from the previous administration, which has now been reduced to N$250 million to date.http://www.namibiansun.com/content/national-news/nbc-faces-november-salary-dilemma

This loss excludes

  • "depreciation
  • "the annual decrease in value of
  • "which means the deficit is in fact much more
  • "expenses amount to N$22 million.[[2]]

RESOLUTION

[edit]

Talks are still under going to find a solution to this problem, as no solution has been found yet. The deputy general secretary of (Napwu) Gabes Andume he is cautious about the solution and let us not predict the there wont be any money. All we can do know is wait and see what solution NBC will come up, we surely hope the solution will be found soon.
