Komil Tursunovich Yusupov (born December 20, 1957) is the founder of kurash and an international sports figure. He was born in the Qorako‘l district of the Bukhara region. Komil Yusupov is not only one of Uzbekistan’s most prominent figures in sports but also a significant contributor to the global sports community. He introduced the national sport of kurash to the world, establishing a remarkable legacy in international sports history. He dedicated his life to developing sports and fostering both the physical and moral growth of future generations.

From Childhood to Greatness Born into an ordinary family in Qorako‘l, Komil Yusupov exhibited discipline and ambition from an early age. Regardless of circumstances, he sought knowledge and experience, working diligently to achieve his goals. His passion and talent for sports became evident in his youth. Over time, he expanded his horizons beyond sports, excelling in military service, law, and international management, achieving numerous milestones.

Early Career Komil Yusupov began his career in 1976 in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During this period, his discipline, responsibility, and leadership skills stood out. Military service instilled in him determination and courage. He later pursued a career as a lawyer:

1983-1984: Served as Chief Legal Counsel for the Toshmetallobitremont Combine, gaining valuable experience in organizational management and legal problem-solving. 1984-1985: Strengthened his expertise in legislation and legal protection during his internship at the Prosecutor's Office. 1985-1991: Worked as a senior officer for the State Security Committee of the USSR, fulfilling critical responsibilities in ensuring public order and national security. A Life Devoted to Sports Sports held a special place in Komil Yusupov's life. In 1991, he was appointed Chairman of the Uzbekistan National Kurash Federation. This marked the beginning of his journey to develop kurash and introduce it to the world. Over the years, he held several key positions in the sports sector:

1992-1996: President of the Uzbekistan Judo Federation, promoting judo on an international scale. 1992-1996: Deputy Chairman of the Uzbekistan Physical Culture and Sports Committee, integrating sports into national policies. 1996-1999: First Deputy Chairman of the Kamolot Youth Foundation, significantly contributing to youth sports development. 2000-2002: Chairman of the Kamolot Youth Foundation, spearheading projects to involve youth in social and sports activities. 2002-2004: Chairman of the Uzbekistan State Physical Culture and Sports Committee, leading the development of sports infrastructure in the country. 2004-2006: First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, initiating projects combining culture and sports. Founder of the International Kurash Association (IKA) In 1998, Komil Yusupov established the International Kurash Association (IKA). As its first president, he played a pivotal role in promoting kurash as an international sport. His efforts have brought recognition to kurash in over 100 countries. He was elected four times:

1998: Uzbekistan (founding election). 2002: Armenia. 2006: Dominican Republic. 2011: Uzbekistan. In 2017, Komil Yusupov was granted the title of Lifetime Founder Chairman of the International Kurash Association, a historic acknowledgment of his contributions to the sport.

International Awards: 1988: "70th Anniversary of the Armed Forces" Jubilee Medal (USSR). 1989: “Afghan People’s Gratitude” Order. 1990: “For Impeccable Service” Award (Class I, KGB, USSR). 2004: UN title of "Goodwill Ambassador." 2006: “GREAT CHINGGIS KHAN” Order (Mongolia). 2007: Title of “Honored Sports Figure of Mongolia.” Komil Yusupov’s Legacy Komil Yusupov elevated kurash from a national sport to an international symbol of unity and friendship. His tireless efforts in promoting kurash have left an indelible mark on sports history, not only in Uzbekistan but worldwide.

Today, he continues to contribute to sports and youth development, serving as an inspiration to athletes and society at large. Komil Yusupov represents the pinnacle of sportsmanship and leadership.
