1. Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish was born in Patiala, Panjab, about 162 miles from Delhi, India in 1914 to a Brahman family. Singer as early as 7 years old. Loved to listen to his mother sing. Credits his mother as his first teacher. His maternal uncle name Khanna was a renowned vocalist in that region. Learned music from his Guru Chandan Ram Charan, of Patiala - a very popular and respected music teacher.
