I am a native English speaker from the United States who has been living and working as an English language instructor in Japan since the early 1980s. I have been teaching English at a prefectural medical university in western Japan since 1996.
I have a serious lifelong interest in Japanese martial arts, having trained in judo, aikido, and most recently Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaido, which I began practicing in 1986. I currently hold the rank of rokudan (6th dan), which I earned in both the Zen Nippon Iaido Federation and the Nihon Iaido Federation, in 1992 and 1996 respectively. Having learned iaido entirely in Japan, I have limited knowledge of the iaido community outside of Japan. On the other hand, I feel this gives me a valuable and distinctly different perspective, one which can only be acquired from years of personal experience living and training in Japan. I would like to use that experience to contribute to a better understanding of the Japanese martial arts, iaido in particular, by collaborating with others in writing and improving related articles.
My contributions to Wikipedia have thus far been minor edits and corrections of typos. I still have much to learn about using this site and becoming an active member of the community, but I would very much like to contribute something more substantial if given the opportunity, especially with any articles related to Japan. Feel free to contact me if you think I may be of assistance with your project.
