Skanderbeg was referred to with many different titles. Until he deserted Ottoman forces in November 1443 or February 1444 Skanderbeg's titles denoted his position in the hierarchy of Ottoman military. After the defeat of Ottoman forces in the Battle of Niš of 1443 he deserted Ottoman forces and was referred to with many different titles.

Epirus

Until the end of the 15th century, during Middle Ages, geographical region of Albania was known as Epirus and Skanderbeg was known in the West as Prince of Epirus.[1] This title was used in the early 16th century notable work of Marin Barleti - The History of Scanderbeg, About the excellent Prince of the Epirots (Latin: Historia de vita et gestis Scanderbegi Epirotarum principis). In many earlier sources Skanderbeg was also referred to as Epirote.[2]
