Focal Plan Arrays are arrays of receivers placed at the focus of a radio-telescope. Traditionally. radio-telescopes have only one receiver at the focusthe telescope., in the same way as traditional optical telescopes had just one detector at the focus. But most professional optical telescopes are now equipped with CCD arrays, enormously increasing the power of the telescope.
