EastEnders is a British soap opera, examining the domestic and professional lives of working class people who live in the fictitious London Borough of Walford in the East End of London. The show airs on BBC One and entered its 39th broadcast year on 1 January 2024 with episode number 6831. Chris Clenshaw continued his role as executive producer, while Kate Oates continued as senior executive producer. During 2024, EastEnders typically aired four episodes in a time slot of 7:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with episodes being around 27 to 29 minutes long.

The first new characters to appear in 2024 were Eddie Knight, played by Christopher Fairbank, and Gloria Knight, played by Elizabeth Counsell; announced on 10 December 2023 and arriving in the first episode, the married characters are George Knight's adoptive parents.[1] Jacqueline Jossa, who had made cameo appearances as her character Lauren Branning in 2022 and 2023 after departing in 2018, returned full time to the role in the first episode, along with Kitty Castledine, playing Jack's daughter Penny Branning, who was last seen in 2008 when she was played by Mia McKenna-Bruce.

During 2024, EastEnders typically aired four episodes of roughly 30 minutes in a time slot of 7:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, though episodes are sometimes moved or extra episodes added for different reasons. Kate Oates continued her role as senior executive producer from 2018,[2] and Chris Clenshaw continued his role as executive producer from 2022.[3]
