Graham Foust (born August 25, 1970) is an American poet and currently is an associate professor at Saint Mary's College of California.[1]


Early Life

Foust was born in Knoxville,Tennessee but moved with his family to Eau Claire, Wisconsin when he was a year old. Foust has stated that he avoided the "culture shock" that comes from adolescents moving from where they were born because he moved at such a young age. Additionally during his childhood, he would return to Tennessee to visit his grandparents and claims to have spent a lot of his youth in the state [2].

Education

Foust has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from Beloit College, a Master of Fine Arts from George Mason University, and a P.H.D.from the State University of New York-Buffalo.[3]

Teaching Career

In 2005, Foust was a professor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa[4]. As of April 17, 2009, he is currently teaching at St. Mary's College of California and is a professor in the English department. Additionally, Foust is a director in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program at St. Mary's.[5]

As an Author

Foust has written two full collections of poetry; As in Every Deafness (Flood Editions, 2003)and Leave the Room to Itself (Ahsahta Press, 2004). Foust's work was also chosen by Robert Creely for the Beyond Arcadia issue of Conjunctions.

David Pavelich believes Foust's poetry to be "a unique blend of whisper and raw humor, darkness and economy of thought."[6]
