Juan M. Glassford (born October 14, 1998, Mexico City)[1] is a Mexican-American documentary and art photographer based between New York and Mexico City.[2] His works often display social and human rights issues such as migration, political-solitude, conflict, and natural disasters.[3]

Life and work

Glassford lived and studied in Mexico City until moving to New York City in 2016.[3]

Glassford was awarded the 2019 Director's Fellowship for Documentary Storytelling at the International Center for Photography (ICP).[1] He became an Academic Fellow in 2020 at the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College (New York), where studied and graduated from the Human Rights and Photography Department[4]. During his studies, Glassford was mentored by photographers Gilles Peress, An-My Le, and Stephen Shore.[2] In 2020, Glassford received a portfolio review at Magnum Photos through Magnum Learn and has since joined the VII Photo Agency through their VII Academy Program.

In September of 2022, Glassford presented the exhibit "Permanencia Transitoria" (Transitory Permanence)[5] for the 2022 Photo Festival FotoSeptiembre organized by Centro de la Imagen, where he showcased photographs of the American South.[2]

Glassford has recently worked in the humanitarian sector in the Horn of Africa, Bangladesh, and Turkey. Documenting conflict and forced-migration, Glassford has collaborated with private NGO's and the UNHCR.
