75th Anniversary of the Great Victory is the victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany

[edit]22.06.1941 attack by fascist Germany on the Soviet Union - the implementation of the "Barbarossa" plan. The German armed forces were to defeat the USSR through a quick military operation "Britzkrieg".
5.08-16.10.1941 defense of Odessa.
8.09.1941 - 27.01.1944 Siege of Leningrad [1] - military blockade of the city Leningrad by German, Finnish and Spanish troops.
12.09.1941 - 10.07.1942 Battle of Crimea [2] - military operations of the Soviet and German-Romanian troops in Crimea.
30.09.1941 - 20.05.1942 Battle of Moscow [3] - military operations of Soviet and German troops in the Moscow direction. In Western historiography, the battle is known as operation Typhoon.
II stage: 1942-1943
[edit]17.07.1942 - 2.02.1943 Battle of Stalingrad - one of the most important general battle of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, which ended in victory the USSR Armed Forces.
5.07 - 23.08.1943 Battle of Kursk [4]
25.07.1942 - 9.10.1943 battle of the Caucasus [5] - the battle of the armed forces of Nazi Germany, Romania and Slovakia against the USSR during the Great patriotic War for control of the Caucasus.
III stage: 1944-1945
[edit]June 1944 allies of the USSR opened " the second front" against Hitler and French and headed for Germany
16.04 - 8.09 Battle of Berlin [6] - one of the last strategic operations of Soviet troops in the Europe, during which the red Army occupied Berlin
30.04.1945 Hitler's suicide
8.09.1945 official capitulation of Berlin

Pavlichenko - the most successful female sniper in world history. She was called the Lady Death
Koroleva - a film actress, a doctor
Grizodubova was a female pilot, the first female hero of the USSR

Facts
[edit]1. After the war the Victory Day had not been celebrated in the Soviet Union for seventeen years.
2. People drank five million six hundred ninety-one liters of vodka in just one month (December 1942).
3. The first victory parade took place in Moscow on June 24, 1945.
4. The Siege of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) lasted 872 days
5. Eighty thousand of soviet officers were women.
6. Until now, the question of the real number of deaths remains open.
7. The most active female sniper was well known in the USA and the song "Miss Pavlichenko" by Woody Guthrie was written about her.
