Should college athletes get paid?

    	Fair treatment is an exspectation for everyone. Young people learn that fair treatment is really only given to the best of the best, or the outstanding students. But not everyone uses sports for money. They can use sports to get into good colleges to boost their GPA. Because most college athletes don’t make it into the big leagues after college, using sports to get into good schools so they can have the job they want is very smart. 

College athletes dont just get paid for good grades. And if paying the college athletes in general is expensive, why pay them for more than the expectation? The colleges are heavily paying the athletes, so don’t have enough money for improvements to their courses or the school itself. The athletes get paid for autographs to fans, being in commorcials, and social media shoutouts (2).This is compensation. Compensation is the use of fame, name, image, or likeness of who they are (2). Colleges that want to be big or famous allow compensation. About 2 dozen of states encoded the right to pay athletes/enter in the NIL (Name Image Likeness)(3). It's not fair to the athletes that dont get recognition because they don’t do what others do. College athletes are black holes when it comes to money. They eat it up and excpect more and more for simple things that they do. Players also get paid by contracts. The college uses the contract to get the player to join them. One contract to an athlete can be 100,000 dollars (3). But that's the smaller portion of this money scramble. NIL can also take the colleges money. Take the University of Miami for example. They have given 10 million dollars to sign players to the NIL (3). And the university of Tennesse openly bought NIL rights to a future quarterback for $8,000,000. NIL doesn’t give athletes anything for performance or GPA. So why pay players for being the ‘next hot topic’ or eligibility and not for scoring the winning pass and getting good grades? NCAA rules allow colleges to pay their athletes up to 5,980 per year just for getting good grades or keeping eligibility(1). That may not seem like a lot of money, but for 4 years that is 23,920 dollars. That's not even close to what a Texas college has. An offensive lineman there can get 50,000 dollars for doing charity work (3). This is too much. College athletes there to play. They should be getting paid for playing, the whole reason they are there. But they should not be getting paid for posting a video on Youtube of themself picking up trash off of the road. Some people believe that college athletes should not be paid because they get scholarships. This is true, however, participating in college sports can create a very financially unstable situation for the athlete after college is over. The colleges use the money to reel the athlete in, so the higher the money is, the more likely they are to get them to join their college. But there can be some surprises when they join the college. At some colleges, there are athletic fees that are about 48 dollars an hour(4). By the end of their college career, 70% of student athletes are in almost 30 thousand dollars in debt(4). Critics say that it’s worth the fee, that the athletic programs at the schools but money spent adds up very quickly. Every sports superstar started off at college. Ever heard the saying, “Practice makes perfect?” They practiced long and hard. Paid lots of money. Some people who pay lots of money wishing to get big don’t, and that money is wasted. College sports are very hit or miss. Some colleges are fair and treat everyone and you fair. Then some colleges treat some people like royalty and you like your nothing.
