Professor Satish Chandra Garkoti (Dr. S C Garkoti ) is a renowned Indian Forest Ecologist and scientist working as professor in School of Environmental Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, India [1]. His core research areas are Forest Ecology, Forest Ecosystem Dynamics, Forest Carbon, Plant Ecophysiology, Plant Water Relations, Invation Biology, Nutrient cycling and Forest net primary productivity[2] etc.[3]. He is a field ecologist. He has published hundreds[4] of original research articles many reputed journals. He also has been working on traditional knowledge system[5] of Indian Himalayan System[6], being the project coordinator of NMSHE a such project of government of India.

He supervised PhD, MPhil and Post Graduate students research as his students of Ecology. He himself is a Student of a very renowned and established ecologist Prof. Surendra Pratap Singh, who is also an INSA fellow[7].

Current Position

Currently he is serving a second term of Rector of JNU, New Delhi.[8] He was appointed as rector-2 of JNU in March, 2016 in the vice-chancellorship of Prof Mamidala Jagdish Kumar and completed his tenure in 2022. In year 2022 he was again appointed as rector-1 in the vice-chancellorship of prof.
