Mori Calliope (森カリオペ, previously 森美声 prior to September 2021[2]) is a virtual YouTuber affiliated with Hololive Production. She is part of the company's first English generation, Hololive English - Myth, alongside Gawr Gura, Takanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina'nis, and Watson Amelia. She debuted on September 12th, 2020[3], and as of August 2023 her YouTube channel has over 2 million subscribers. Unlike her fellow Myth members, she prefers to focus on, and is largely recognized by fans for, her musical output, which consists primarily of alternative rap.
Overview
[edit]Auditions for English-speaking talents were held by Cover Corp., Hololive's parent company, from April 23rd to May 4th of 2020. Mori Calliope's Twitter and YouTube accounts were both created on July 16th, 2020. Her Live2D model was illustrated by yukisame, and was rigged by Jujube.[4][5] Her name is often shortened to "Calli" or "Mori" by fans.
Activity
[edit]Mori Calliope's debut livestream took place on September 12th, 2020,[6] immediately after which her first original song, "Excuse My Rudeness, But Could You Please RIP?" was released, exceeding 1 million views by September 20th[7]. Between September 12th and 16th, she would release three other singles, which would be released the following October as her first extended play, "DEAD BEATS".
On January 25th 2021, her channel reached 1 million subscribers. On April 4th, she released her second EP, "Your Mori".
On March 20th 2022, she held her first 3D performance during Hololive 3rd Fes. Link Your Wish. On March 24th 2022, she released her first full album, "Unalive".[8] On March 26th, her channel had reached 2 million subscribers.
On April 4th 2022, she revealed during her 2nd birthday celebration stream that she had signed with EMI Records.[9][10] On July 1st, she was featured in a special edition of Rolling Stone, released for free at that year's Anime Expo.[11] Her first major release was "Shinigami Note" on July 20, her third EP overall. On the following day, she held a solo concert at Toyosu PIT in Tokyo, where she announced her first major album.[12] The album, "Sinderella", would release on December 16th 2022.[13]
On February 8th 2023, she was appointed as a Tokyo Tourism Ambassador alongside fellow Hololive members Gawr Gura and Sakura Miko by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. On July 17th, she released the single "Future Island" as part of a collaboration with Shueisha to promote the 106th volume of One Piece.[14]
