Early Years and Key Events

[edit]

The Tayyebiyah Jamaat Khana gained historical significance during the tenure of Syedna Taher Saifuddin (RA), the 51st Da'i al-Mutlaq of the Dawoodi Bohra community. It has been a venue for numerous notable events, particularly religious congregations and celebrations.

  1. Ashara Mubarakah 1347 H:
    • This event marked the first time Ashara Mubarakah sermons were held exclusively in the Tayyebiyah Jamaat Khana, as it provided the capacity to accommodate a larger audience.
    • Previously, the Adam Masjid and Saddar Market Masjid (likely the Dawoodi Masjid) were the primary venues. The arrangement of sermons varied, with initial sessions conducted in Adam Masjid and subsequent ones at Saddar Market Masjid.
    • In 1347 H, both masjids proved insufficient for the congregation. The Tayyebiyah Jamaat Khana, therefore, became the primary venue.
    • Notably, during this Ashara, the elegiac poem "يا سيد الشهداء" was composed and recited verse by verse at the Jamaat Khana before Waaz Mubarak.
  2. Visit of Syedna Taher Saifuddin to Adam Masjid (7th Muharram, 1347 H):
    • After Waaz Mubarak at the Tayyebiyah Jamaat Khana, Syedna visited Adam Masjid for Jumu'ah prayers.
    • His arrival was a grand procession, vividly described in Naseem-e-Sehar: Syedna arrived in a motor car amidst a crowd, followed by volunteers, community leaders, and a traditional group bearing swords and shields.
  3. Zarih of Imam Husain (1936 / 1355 H):
    • A zarih for the grave of Imam Husain (AS), crafted with 1997 tolas of silver and 250 tolas of gold, was displayed at the Tayyebiyah Jamaat Khana upon its arrival in Karachi on 13th February 1936.
    • The zarih was later inaugurated at Karbala Moalla by Syedna Taher Saifuddin.
  4. Diamond Jubilee of Fayz-e-Husaini (1945 / 1364 H):
    • On 27th May 1945, the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Fayz-e-Husaini were held at the Tayyebiyah Jamaat Khana.
    • The event was attended by Syedna Taher Saifuddin, Syedi Mohammed Burhanuddin (RA), and Syedi Yusuf Najmuddin (RA), along with dignitaries from various communities.
  5. Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Syedna Taher Saifuddin (1382 H):
    • The inaugural celebrations for the Golden Jubilee of Syedna Taher Saifuddin were held at the Tayyebiyah Jamaat Khana on 3rd Rabi' al-Akhir 1382 H.
  6. Address to Toloba al-Kulliyaat al-Mu’minoon (1385 H):
    • On 10th Jumada al-Ula 1385 H, Syedna Taher Saifuddin addressed students of Toloba al-Kulliyaat al-Mu’minoon at the Jamaat Khana.
  7. Reception Post-Hajj Safar (1356 H):
    • Following his Hajj pilgrimage in 1355 H, Syedna visited Karachi during his return journey on 24th June 1937 / 15th Rabi' al-Awwal 1356 H.
    • After a reception at the Karachi port, he proceeded to Tayyebiyah Jamaat Khana, where a ziafat was arranged.
