- Although many people in Congress claimed decreasing birth rates and an aging population and parenting support in Japan, they had not actively promoted these works. In congress, male Diet members accounted for over half of the majority whereas young female Diet members like her were rare. Also, some male Diet members believed that getting married and pregnant consequently can be neglected work as members of the Diet, so female Diet members had to give up on them. Under this environment, Seiko Hashimoto announced getting pregnant in 2000. She described her experiences and difficulties at that time.
