Background

[edit]

Rochen Limited, also known as Rochen, was founded in July 2000 by Chris Adams. Rochen is a company that provides hosting services for websites. They currently have teams operating in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.[1]

Rochen is a strong supporter of the open source community backing projects, including the Joomla! content management system (CMS). Rochen is the web hosting partner for the official Joomla! website.[2]

Backup Technology

[edit]

Rochen offers a fully-managed and automatic backup and recovery platform called Rochen Vault that backs up hosting accounts multiple times a day to an off-server location. This allows any account the ability to restore the account or files from up to 30 days in the past.[3]

Awards

[edit]

In October 2005, Rochen was nominated alongside Joomla as a finalist in the category of Best Linux/Open Source ISP/Internet Host at the LinuxWorld Expo Awards held in London.[4]

Environmental Initiatives

[edit]

Rochen has partnered with Green Mountain Energy to purchase 25 metric tons of carbon credits to offset the emissions of Rochen's hosting operations. Green Mountain will invest in renewable energy sources like wind and solar power as well as biomass facilities. The funding will also provide support for reforestation projects through Green Mountain’s relationship with the Pacific Forest Trust.

Following the launch of their green hosting initiatives in November 2008, Rochen was contacted by the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre. The UNEP now hosts their Conservation Commons website with Rochen.[5]

Events

[edit]

Rochen helps sponsor Joomla! Days™ Worldwide, an event created exclusively for Joomla users and projects.[6]
