My name is Alex VanHoose born in December of 1994. I’m from the small town of Paintsville, Kentucky where I attended Paintsville High School. I was a 2 sport athlete all through high school playing soccer and baseball all 4 years. Since the time I was little I loved to play sports especially baseball and I was lucky enough to earn a scholarship to play in college. I currently attend the University of Pikeville and I'm an outdoorsmen. Hunting and fishing is almost all I do outside of sports and school, it’s a tradition unlike any other out there. I inherited it from my grandfather who would travel across the country to hunt in the wilderness. Deer and turkey are my favorite to eat and hunt. My favorite music to listen to is Country, mostly Eric Church, Jason Aldean, or Luke Bryan. I came to the University of Pikeville on a soccer scholarship but changed it to baseball, because I missed out on my senior year due to a knee injury in the first game that year. I was a returning starting outfielder and one of the top hitters on the team, as well as team co-captain. I’ve played against guys that have been drafted or will be drafted soon and that’s an experience that no one will take away from me. I’ve learned that through hard work and dedication one can accomplish any goal that they set and reach anything that they want. That's all it takes in life is the ability to set a goal and achieve it and do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. Some quotes to live by in life i believe are :
"Great moments are born from great opportunity"- Coach Herb Brooks 1980 US Hockey Coach
"Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do." -John Wooden UCLA Head Coach
My stance on technology is difficult to describe. I’m not very "techy" but I can do limited stuff with phones, game consoles, and computers. As a kid growing up in a world where technology is constantly growing you learn how to do just about anything on a computer because one of your friends probably knows what to do if you don't. Technology is constantly growing and growing, video games are the biggest growing due to the new graphics and systems that are coming out constantly. We have motion sensing games now! 15 years ago that would’ve been unbelievable! Kids today have iPhone, although I don't think anyone under 5th grade should have a cell phone at all because they don't have anyone to text. The world is constantly changing day to day and advancing year to year. The internet is a big part of my life as my phone is always on me on twitter Instagram, or even texting. Texting is a big part of every teenager's life. I text constantly and its gets me in trouble so much because I always look at my phone in class. So that’s my stance on technology. It's not long but it's where i stand it should be apart of our lives everyday.
Wikipedia is a very useful tool for research in my mind I look up a lot of stuff on Wikipedia. You can find just about anything on Wikipedia. I search everything on Wikipedia just to find something on the subject that crossed my mind. The Wikipedia app on my phone is constantly being used to look up subjects past and present. You can look up specific battles from any war, all the way to a specific animal and its habitat. The topics I look up range to just about anything. I believe for it to be a very useful tool for students today as an important stop in research for a topic. The use of Wikipedia should be taught in all schools English classes. It's helped me get through school and it can help others I'm sure of it.
