NIGHT\SHIFT

Night\Shift (stylized as NIGHT\SHIFT) is an annual nuit blanche festival held in the Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. With its inaugural year in 2013, it was billed as the KW region’s first nuit blanche-style festival. It is held on the first Saturday of November, running from 9pm to 3am, on the weekend of when the autumn time shift occurs. NIGHT\SHIFT 2014 is on November 1, beginning a couple of hours after sundown on the night of the annual autumn time change. [1]

The project focuses on the idea of exploration and discovery, especially of the sort that deepens the sense of the landscape and environment in which the residents live. The installations capture inspiration, experimentation of new ideas and celebration of the city. Night\Shift’s purpose is to help facilitate a vision of a more sustainable future. [2]

History

[edit]

The festival is run by the Alternatives\Journal staff since 2013. The festival is also supported by sponsors and volunteers within the region. The activities are held in downtown Kitchener. The various events are dispersed throughout both indoor and outdoor locations. The unconventional landscape of the festival is aimed at getting attendees to reconsider their environment.
