This user is a student editor in Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/UCLA/Chem_153A_Honors_(Fall_2015). Student assignments should always be carried out using a course page set up by the instructor. It is usually best to develop assignments in your sandbox. After evaluation, the additions may go on to become a Wikipedia article or be published in an existing article. |
Prospective Articles/Research:
I'd like to work on this page due to the lack of information that exists in the biochemistry section of the page. Most of the information seems to be tended towards the nutritious aspects. Fatty acids interest me and I would love to do more research regarding the biochemistry of these molecules.

This article can include more information regarding homotropic and heterotropic regulators of hemoglobin. Also, the article can be simplified and worded to be better understood.
This article, like the omega-6 fatty acid article, is also lacking in the chemistry and biochemistry section. The article is mostly about the nutritious aspects of trans fatty acids. I'd be interested in adding information to the biochemistry and chemistry sections, regarding such things as conformation and biochemical comparisons to saturated, unsaturated, and cis fatty acids.
The section on hemoglobin and myoglobin in this article is lacking and could use more information. The section regarding the link between cooperatively and subunits can be more padded and better worded.
OUTLINE
Biological Membrane
- Hydrophobic Effect creating formation of bilayer (Add under existing function section)
- Reduces contact with water for hydrophobic ends
- Increases contact to water with polar heads.
- Temperature-dependence of fluid-like properties of membrane (new section under "Function")
- Can become more solid-like under a certain temperature
- Characteristics that determine that temperature
- Proteins (new section under "Function"
- Peripheral proteins are associated with outer membrane (loose association, can easily become detached)
- Integral proteins are associated with inner membrane (strong association, cannot easily become detached)
- Asymmetry (new section under "Function")
- Asymmetry between inside and outside of membrane
