Edward E. Lawler III (born 1938) is a distinguished American academic and researcher, who served as a professor of business at the University of Southern California (USC) Marshall School of Business. Lawler is noted for his contributions to the fields of human resources management, organizational development, and compensation theory. In 1979, he founded the USC Center for Effective Organizations (CEO), which has been recognized by Fortune and BusinessWeek as one of the leading research centers in management.[1]

Research and Contributions

Lawler has worked extensively with Fortune 500 companies, as well as governmental and non-profit organizations. He has been recognized by BusinessWeek as one of the top six management experts, while Human Resource Executive named him one of the most influential people in the field of human resources. Workforce magazine included him among the top 25 visionaries who have shaped modern workplace practices over the past century.

Professional Recognition

Over the course of his career, Lawler has received numerous awards for his contributions to management and human resources research. He has been honored by organizations including the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), and the Academy of Management. Among these accolades is the SHRM’s Michael R. Losey Award, for which Lawler was the inaugural recipient. Lawler has made several national television appearances, including on The Today Show, CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC, and is a frequent speaker at conferences around the world.
