James Stevenson (c. 1780 - 24 June 1844) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

James Stevenson was born c. 1780.[4]

He married Frances Sloan (c. 1779 - 5 February 1864) from Edinburgh.[5] They married on 30 July 1814 in Edinburgh.[6]

Of their children, three, Isabella, Amelia and Anderson died in infancy, but at least Jemima Stevenson (died 29 March 1881) and Margaret Lindsay Stevenson (died 12 February 1895) had fuller lives. Robert became a minister in the Church of Scotland[7] and of Christian it is not known.

Death

He died on 24 June 1844, aged 64, at 8 Atholl Place in Edinburgh.[9][10]

He was buried in St. Cuthbert's churchyard on 1 July 1844.[11] On the cemetery register it was noted that he died of 'decline'.[12]
