Robert Stein (26 February 1778 - 15 March 1844) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Andrew Stein (15 November 1741 - c. 1828) from Airth. He became known as Andrew Stein of Hattonburn, Kinross-shire.
His mother was Margaret Dudgeon (c. 1749 - c. 1819) from East Lothian. Andrew and Margaret married on 5 August 1774 in Clackmanannan.
Robert Stein was born on 26 February 1778 in Clackmannan. He was baptised there on 11 March that year.[3][4]
His brother was the artist James Stein (30 November 1780 - 1 July 1865).

[edit]He died in 15 March 1844 in Lambeth, London. He was buried in St. Mary's churchyard, Lambeth, London on 20 March 1844.[5]
