Charles Frederick Ortmann Smith (10 September 1874 - 23 July 1949) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Charles Smith (born c. 1844), a clerk in the Court of Session, from the parish of St. Andrews on Orkney mainland.

His mother was Elise Wilhelmina Francesca Ortmann (18 February 1844 - 31 July 1902) from Plieningen, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Charles and Elise married in Larbert on 30 May 1870.[6]

Charles Frederick Ortmann Smith was born on 10 September 1874 in Edinburgh.[7]

He married Violet Parker (born 17 October 1879). They married in Marylebone, London in 1907.

He died on 23 July 1949 in Edinburgh. His usual address was 22 Inverleith Gardens.[8][9]

The funeral was on 26 July 1949 at Warriston crematorium.
