Campbell Lindsay Smith (1879 - 1915) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life

His father was John Smith (1824 - 1889), a Major General from Dreghorn in Ayrshire.

His mother was Edith Helen Campbell (1848 - 1917) from Niagara in Ontario, Canada. John And Edith married on 18 October 1870 in Edinburgh.

Campbell Lindsay Smith was born in Arbilot near Arbroath, Angus on 27 March 1879.[7]

He married Hannah Frances Dalzell Piper (1891 - 20 July 1958) in Ropley, Southampton on 19 June 1915.[8]

He joined the 8th battalion Gordon Highlanders and became a Lieutenant.

Death

He died on 10 November 1915 in Ypres, Belgium. His usual address was then 259 Union Street in Aberdeen.[9]

He was shot and taken as a prisoner of war by German soldiers but died that night and was buried in Kortevilde.[10] He is commemorated in the TyneCot cemtery as Passendale, Belgium.[11]

The value of his estate was given as £463, 11 shillings and 1 penny.
