David Small (19 May 1844 - 12 May 1927) was a Scottish painter and photographer.[1][2]

His father was James Small (c. 1806 - 1881), a coal agent from Kinross, Perthshire.

His mother was Catharine Robertson (7 February 1810 - 10 May 1861) from Kinross. James and Catharine married on 21 February 1841 in Kinross.

David Small was born in Kinross on 19 May 1844. He was baptised there on 26 May 1844.[8]

He married Christina Ryland (born c. 1848) from Glasgow. They married on 28 November 1871 in Milton, Glasgow.[9]

His brother in law was Dr. Alexander Hastie Miller (25 November 1847 - 27 February 1827), the first husband of his sister Margaret Small.[10]

He died on 12 May 1927 at his home in 81 Loons Road, Dundee.[12]
