George Simson (28 July 1791 - 11 March 1862) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Alexander Simson.

His mother was Jean Wilson. Alexander and Jean married on 17 April 1789 in Dundee.

George Wilson Simson was born on 28 July 1791 in Dundee. He was baptised on 6 July 1791 in Dundee.

He married Marie Clotilde Grandeu from France. They married on 16 December 1826 in Edinburgh.

His brothers were the artists David Simson (c. 1803 - 29 March 1874) and William Simson (17 October 1799 - 29 August 1847).

Death

He died on 11 March 1862 at his home in 54 North Frederick Street in Edinburgh.[5][6] He was buried on 15 March 1862 in Warriston cemetery in Edinburgh. The cemetery register states that he died from paralysis.[7]
