William Sheriff (16 September 1814 - 30 July 1893) was a Scottish painter.[1][2] He was also the Supervisor of Ireland Revenue.

His father was John Sheriff.

His mother was Margaret Alison (born c. 1788) from the Mearns, Renfrewshire. John and Margaret married on 17 May 1807 in Glasgow.

William Sheriff was born in the Mearns, Renfrewshire on 16 September 1814. He was baptised on 25 September 1814.[7]

He married Mary Campbell (born c. 1838) from Stirling. They married on 13 July 1874 in Edinburgh.

His brother was the artist John Sheriff (9 September 1816 - 9 December 1844).

He died at 5 Minard Terrace, Partickhill, Glasgow on 30 July 1893.[8] His estate was valued at £2737 and 14 shillings.[9]
