John Sheriff (9 September 1816 - 9 December 1844) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was John Sheriff [Snr].
His mother was Margaret Alison (born c. 1788) from the Mearns, Renfrewshire. John [Snr] and Margaret married on 17 May 1807 in Glasgow.
John Sheriff was born on 9 September 1816 in the parish of Mearns in Renfrewshire.
His brother was the artist William Sheriff (16 September 1814 - 30 July 1893).
poss. marriage to Mary Ann Watson on 6 December 1843 in Govan.

[edit]He died on 9 December 1844 in Edinburgh. He was buried on 12 December 1844. The cemetery register states he died of a inflammation of the chest.[4]
