Baba Jai gurudev (Hindi: बाबा जय गुरुदेव) is an Indian spiritual guru who is regarded by his Hindu and Muslim devotees as a saint. He is an extension of Popular Radhasoami sect.

Early Life

No evidential information on initial days of Baba Jai gurudev’s life is available. It stems from the hagiography that grew around him, the presentation of narratives that hold special meaning to his devotees and are considered evidence of his divine nature. No clear evidences pertaining to the date of birth of Baba is available whereas it is said that Baba Jai Gurudev was born in a small village Khiotra of Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh State in India. His father was a talented person as well as land lord. When he was a child he lost his parents. At the time of death his mother asked him to search out and realize God & not to get trapped in these momentary worldly pleasures.

Search of Perfect Guru

At the age of seven years Young Tulisdas left his house. Remembering the words of his mother he visited temples, mosques and churches and did what their heads told. He searched for a perfect spiritual master for years. Finally his search ended when he met with Pandit Ghurelal ji sharma of Brahman family in Chirauli village of Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. His Guru Swami Ghurelalji Maharaj initiated him towards the achievement of highest order of divinity. Baba Jai Gurudev with his intense urge to seek the divine followed and practiced the path as guided by his Spiritual Master. During initial days he practiced Sadhana for more than 18 hours in a day under guidance of his Spiritual Master. He was able to realize GOD within short period. On Dec 1950 Dada Guru left his five elementary body and before death he asked his three sons to follow what Saint Tulsidas says and instructed saint Tulsidas to spread this message to mankind.

Start of Discourses

He started his spiritual mission on July 10th 1952 from Varanasi. Later on it was spread to almost each and every corner of India. Initial discourses were based on social & spiritual upliftment. On instruction of his Guru Saint Tulsidas initiated a name Jai gurudev as the name of God and started propagating the same. Due this he became popluar as Baba Jai gurudev. Then congress government and few religious leaders posed strong resistance to him. Indira Gandhi government was uncomfortable with his fearless way of speaking in masses. He was booked under false charges during Emergency & was severely punished.

Imprisonment during Emergency

On 29 June 1975 The Emergency (India) he was imprisoned under the false charges framed by then congress government. Initially he was kept in Agra central prison & later on moved to Bareilly prison. As his followers were continuously meeting him at these prisons govt. decided to shift him to an unknown location. Hence he was moved to Bangalore Central Jail. Later on he was shifted to Tihar prison New Delhi. He was released on March 23rd 1977 at 03 PM IST. His followers consider this to be a Historical day & celebrate this day as Mukti Divas and observe fast till 03 PM on 23 March every year.

Post his release from Prison Mrs. Indira Gandhi visited his Mathura Ashram and apologized for the incident and asked for blessings to get into power again. Baba ji blessed her but advised that no body from Gandhi Family should be sworn in as PM or else there will be an unfavorable scenario to the family.

Servant to Mankind

Although his followers call him as guru but he always calls himself a servant of mankind & lives a simple life.

Jai gurudev Dharm Pracharak Sanstha

An Non-profit organization ‘Jai gurudev Dharm Pracharak Sanstha’ headquartered in Mathura and headed by Baba Jai gurudev is responsible for spreading the messages of Spirituality amongst masses. This faith is also known as ‘Sant-mat’, the path of Saints. Sant-Mat sects emphasis on listening to inner sound.
