Raja, Darryl & Loh (better known as "RDL") is a law firm that operates in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is one of the larger law firms in Malaysia.

As of 2010, it is a partnership comprising of 18 legal partners[1], 6 senior legal associates[2], 33 legal associates[3], and supported by around 90 office staff and personnel.

Alliance

In 2008, Raja, Darryl & Loh formed a strategic regional alliance with Allens Arthur Robinson[7], a leading Australian law firm with offices throughout the Asia Pacific including Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, People’s Republic of China, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The firm is on the panel of a large number of Malaysian banks, and enjoys good relationships with several foreign banks, including a number of German financial institutions. The group advised CIMB Investment Bank on the debt restructuring of bank facilities to a Malaysian borrower. Jennifer Cheong[10] and Joyce Teh[11] are recommended.’[12]

Darryl SC Goon[17] heads the team, which, as well as handling advisory and litigation work for a major foreign financial institution, acted for a leading international name in arbitration arising from a significant project dispute. Chang Wei Mun[18] is particularly recommended for construction disputes.’[19]

History

Raja Darryl & Loh started out as a sole proprietorship known as ‘Mah King Hock & Co’ in March 1964. Somewhere in the mid 1960’s, ‘Mah King Hock & Co’ became a partnership, changing its name to ‘Mah & Kok’ around 1966. With the addition of new legal partners to the firm, ‘Mah & Kok’ subsequently became ‘Mah-Kok & Din’ around 1971. After various changes in the firm’s constitution, ‘Mah-Kok & Din’ then became ‘Mah & Din’ around 1991.

Finally, from 1st January 1993 until the present day, the firm became known as ‘Raja, Darryl & Loh’.

Notable alumni

Dato’ Kok Wee Kiat - Former Partner and Member of Parliament who left the firm on his appointment as the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of Malaysia (11 August 1986 – 20 October 1990)[32]

Dato’ Nik Mohd Din bin Datuk Nik Yusoff – Former partner who became the Chairman of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (circa 1988 – 1997)

Ong See Seng – Former partner who was appointed to the bench of the High Court of Malaya in 1989

Dato' Sri Azalina binti Othman Said – a former legal assistant (circa 1988 –1989, 1991 – 1994) who became a Malaysian Tourism Minister (18 March 2008 – 9 April 2009) and Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister (31 March 2004 – 17 March 2008)
