Zach Wahls spoke January 31, 2011 at a public hearing before the Iowa House of Representatives against Iowa House Joint Resolution 6 (HJR6) calling for a vote on amending the Iowa Constitution. HJR6 is in response to the Varnum v. Brien Iowa Supreme Court ruling from April 2009 allowing for same sex marriage in Iowa.

Zach is a student at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and a small business owner. [1] His three minute speech was recorded and posted on Youtube on February 1, 2011. In the first week, over one million views were recorded. [2] The speech and subsequent notoriety was reported by MSNBC, [3] [4] CBS News, [5] Des Moines Register, [6] and The Daily Iowan. [7]
