Hi!
I am AJ. A normal wikipedian like you. A newcomer though. Officially I am a member of Wikipedia since 22nd February, 2010 but I have been active only recently. Its an interesting space. I have never experienced such a thing. I mean it's like a public property with private rights. Well, vandalism is an unfortunate misuse of this freedom but anyway good guys like you and me are there to fail their very attempt.

I have developed a keen interest in wikipedia for many reasons. It is one of the very few things that attracts a large variety of people. One the other side, definitely the whole world is using the service but on our side - I mean the contributors, we are also varied. All kinds of people starting from a school kid, housewives, businessmen, media people, your english teacher (perhaps!), programmers, doctors, lawyers, PhDs, etc are now involved. As I said as there are so many variety there are good guys and bad guys in here too. Before I talk about them, let me tell you more about myself.

I am currently studying in Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India. I am a proud Indian and soon now a proud Wikipedian! I am doing my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. Yeah you guessed it right - I am into machines. Anyways apart from that I am a good programmer and now wikipedia inspired me to learn HTML and Java and I am on the GO. Well, it brings me to an important issue - an issue that many of us (newcomers) face.

When I decided to seriously contribute articles, or do editing, I was overwhelmed by multitude of options that I had in front of me. This is a good feature but a real horror for a newcomer. I literally spent hours to understand how wiki works - the mediaWiki codes needed to write articles in proper format and now I will also venture into javascripts soon. Many of us don't have enough time to learn all that and we tend to drop this wikipedia thingy. But hey listen, if you are a newcomer then you found a right user - me. I am planning to start a new subpage totally dedicated to new comers. It will tell you what to learn first to get you "well started". The things gets even more difficult when you start contributing in your local wikipedia. I can only help Hindi-Wikipedians in that case. Hindi wikipedia is in a poor condition as compared to english and I am trting to do my bit to improve it.

My contributions:

I am also active on Hindi Wikipedia under the same user name.
