Martha ("Marty") Hayne Talbot (1932), born Martha Hayne, is an American ecologist and conservationist.

Biography

Hayne was born on August 3, 1932 in San Francisco to Anna Hayne and Francis Bourn.[1] In the 1954 she graduated from Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York, where she had developed an interest in biology. In 1957, she co-founded the Student Conservation Corps of the U.S. National Park Service together with Liz Putman.[2][3] In 1959 Hayne married the biologist Lee Merriam Talbot. Together, the Talbots conducted ecological fieldwork in East Africa, Southeast Asia, and the United States, working for organizations such as the WWF, IUCN, the International Biological Program, and the Smithsonian Institution, and jointly published numerous articles and reports.[4][5]

In her lifetime, Marty's work was honoured with awards from the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Society of Women Geographers, and the World Commission on Protected Areas, among others.[2]
