Hradesin is an organization currently engaged in the production of multi-media installations that encompass music, film and photography. Hradesin is primarily the work of one individual, namely the bassist and composer Robert White, aka Pinky.

The name Hradesin originates from a small town in the Czech Republic which is known as a shortwave numbers station broadcast site. For example: “Hradesin, 12km East/South East from Prague a mystery centre from which originate countings (50,51,52,…59) on 1122khz.” See also WWDXDE.

History

[edit]

Formed in 2000 by band member Pinky White, Hradesin originally had four members that included Duddley Middleton, Adie Collop and Chris Mizsak. First radio play was on BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction hosted by Fiona Talkington during late summer 2000.

Methods

[edit]

Hradesin employ many compositional techniques, the music could be described as aleatoric since chance systems, indeterminacy and photographic scores are all utilized. Free improvisation is a key element both in studio works and in live performance. Some pieces are minimalist in nature whilst others are purely noise based, Both serialism and more conventional harmonic structure also play a role.Field recordings, and found sound are often combined with the resultant compositions.Recordings are generally binaural and are often subject to further manipulation and post processing.
