YOU SUCK DICKS!
BLAH BLAH YOUR GAY!

Revision as of 22:50, 11 December 2008

  • Thank you for the input. I have been watching hockey all day during my editing on Wikipedia, and I have been caught in an error. I meant to put an expansion tag, not a sources tag. I apologize for the mixup, and thank you for your diligence on the matter. Furthermore, it's a refreshing change to have someone so polite and helpful when it comes to matters on a fraternal nature. I'm much more used to a harsher tone when I edit a page an someone disagrees, so I thank you. Jmlk17 02:10, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job with the sourcing, brother! bd2412 T 01:52, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Poe and "The Hollow Earth"

Hey, just so you know, I moved the reference to "The Hollow Earth" novel from the Edgar Allan Poe page. We're trying to maintain Edgar Allan Poe in popular culture for literature that uses the historical Poe as a fictional character. Feel free to expand "The Hollow Earth" listing there - especially if you have better context for the role he played in the book, etc. Thanks!! -Midnightdreary 23:53, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, and thanks for the tip - I'll have to keep my eye out for it! -Midnightdreary 01:00, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eagle Rock

David, would you please explain to me why the brother of someone famous, who is not famous in their own right - and not notable enough to have their own bio page in wikipedia - warrants a entry in the Eagle Rock article? And a picture? Matt Lauder's lived there - but then so did I - so how is Matt so notable he has a photo and 1/2 a paragraph dedicated to him - and when did we start including noting famous peoples newphews who are golf instructors in articles? It's a really nice picture of Matt, but even by the largest stretch of my imagination I can't see how Matt is notable to meet wikipedia guidelines. Now if his BROTHER lived in Eagle Rock, I could see the inclusion, but you don't mention that at all. Your assistance in helping me understand this would be appreciated. Timmccloud

Just transferring this to your Talk Page, Tim. Well in his time he was a minor notable of Eagle Rock, as is evidenced by the many references to him in the Los Angeles Times. His private company carried out numerous commissions for the rich and famous, and laid out Forest Lawn. In addition he, like Sir Harry, sang well, and he often appeared on local stage and radio: on May 12 and June 16, 1928, the LA Times lists him on the radio, and on June 19 that year he stood in for his brother (Sir H) at a LA Music Pageant. I see too that the LA Times carried a report on April 8, 1929, where the Canadian Tourist Society of Southern California (whatever that was ) presented him with an Honourary membership certificate at some event. the article's sub heading states "Matt Lauder honoured". He also warranted an obituary. And like it or not he was notable just by being Sir Harry's brother. So while I did not think there was sufficient for an entire article page I felt he could go under Eagle Rock as a notable of his time there. Lets face it. Look at some the grotty 'notables' et al we see today. Most of them would have been cast aside in 1930! Regards, David Lauder (talk) 18:04, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There you go! Make a reference to him laying out forest lawn and that would make him personally notable for the article. Exactly what I was looking for David - will you make the edit or shall I? Timmccloud (talk) 18:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. That was quick! You can do it. Somewhere there is a press photo of Sir Harry visiting Matthew, with their niece Greta also. It was taken on the steps of the Wee Kirk o' the Heather'. Someone sent me a copy of it years ago but I don't know where it is now. I sometimes get a bit of stick for editing people with the same surname as myself (regardless of the fact that there are two columns of Lauders in our phone book!) Marshall, WI images

I drove through Marshall this morning and I took some pictures. Should I upload my pictures that didn't turn out very well, or would you like to upload some pictures of the downtown and welcome sign? It was dreary outside at the time that I took them, and some pictures on a nice sunny day with the sun at your back would put my pictures to shame. Royalbroil 02:57, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aw thanks

What's with the "beef" stuff on the article then? Did you go to Dane Court? Hamletpride (talk) 15:26, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For want of a nail

I thought the article was fairly complete; the talk page template makes the expand template redundant as well. Please feel free to revert if you disagree. Cheers, Her Pegship (tis herself) 23:08, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Using Company Logos

Hi Tim,

I am working on a wikipedia page for CUNA Mutual Group and was hoping you could lend a helping hand with including a company logo. I have read through the help sections and posted questions, but I am still lost. Can I upload a logo to Commons that will link to the wikipedia page? What about copyright and licenses? Any help would be great!!! 12.171.85.26 (talk) 15:24, 22 July 2008 (UTC)cunamutual[reply]

  • First Step: read Wikipedia:Logos
  • Using Copyrighted Material in an Encyclopdia where nothing else will do: If you click on the AMFAM logo on the Amfam page, you can read the copyright information on how wikipedia is allowed to use copyrighted material, such as the amfam logo - basically, it states that the image is a) in low resolution to avoid copying b) can't be replaced by any other image to represent the same idea, and used that way it grants an extremely limited license to use it only on an encyclopedia page. So if you have a good logo of CUNA Mutual, and pretty much use my copyright justification verbatium (substituting cuna for amfam), it should work fine.
  • Uploading the copyrighted Logo to Commons: For the same reasoning that wikipedia has a very limited "license" to use the copyrighted logo, I wouldn't put it in Commons - that would be for photos or images that anyone could use anywhere. I'd suggest putting a link on the Cuna Page in edit mode to a nonexistant file like "cuna.jpg" and in the preview window, click on the red link - which would take you to right to an upload page to upload the file. - here is an example for you to click on to see how the upload page works - File:Testme.jpg. This would upload the photo only to wikipedia - not commons - allowing you to justify the image with the limited copyright.
  • Hope these answer your questions! I would also suggest that you sign up and create a username to make edits like that - you are much more likely to be taken serious by other wikipedia editors, and less likely to be reverted. Take care, send me an update when you are finished so I can check it out! Tim  :) Timmccloud (talk) 00:35, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks for the quick response, Tim! You have definitely provided a lot of great information, but unfortunately I have hit a roadblock. Are you part of the pseudo-group autoconfirmed? (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Established_users#Autoconfirmed_users) I followed your steps, but now do not have authorization to upload an image. I do have a username (cunamutual) and my user page is currently the soon-to-be CUNA Mutual Group public page, that is, if I figure out this logo problem. Would it be at all possible for you to upload an image for this page? Do you then have to create the page? Thanks, Tanja 12.171.85.26 (talk) 21:08, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Sure! I'll upload the image for you - I didn't even know the "autoconfirmed" status thing even existed. Part of your problem though, is even though you have a userid - cunamutual - you aren't signed in as cunamutual when you do these edits - you are still using your IP address - as evidenced by your signature 12.171.85.26 (talk) - this only happens when you aren't signed in. If you were doing these edits to my user page while signed in, you would probably already have autoconfirmed status. Anyway, email me two things - any official permission you have that permits wikipedia to use the logo (if any) and the logo in a relatively small size (like the one on your website, or one that would sit on a letterhead). If you can get one with a white background, that works better visually in the infobox, or else I would recommend one that doesn't exceed a 2:1 width:height ratio because long skinny ones work poorly in the infobox. Here's my email address (intentionaly removed) - I'll upload the file tonight. One more thing - once I upload the file I prove it works in your test space, I'm going to comment out the link to the file until you move it from userspace to the encyclopedia - the "limited" license to display logos does NOT include "draft" files found in userspaces. You can always check it yourself in preview mode, just don't save it with the logo visible, or wikipedia bots will remove the link for copyright violation. Talk to you soon! Tim Timmccloud (talk) 12:36, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • It's done. I used "cmg_vert_4c_unit.jpg" and it's called "CUNA_Mutual_Group_logo.jpg". The user:cunamutual page in your userspace has been modified to display the logo, and it's been commented out using <!- -> notation; you can see how it looks by removing the comments and hitting preview - just a reminder, don't save the page with the logo displayed in userspace, that violates the copyright and there are bots out there that will immediately revert it. You can remove the comments when you shift the page into the main encylopedia space, as that is where the license is valid. I'm glad to have helped! Tim :D Timmccloud (talk) 02:38, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • Thank you!!! I really appreciate the help! Cunamutual (talk) 13:40, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template on Vaarsuvius

My bad. I was putting a lot of templates up one after another on a group of articles and not paying close attention to the previews. Thanks for fixing that typo. --Politizer (talk) 16:57, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, no problem. I understand completely why you tagged them, unfortunately I just wish you hadn't. The articles on wikipedia about the Order of the Stick are the most comprehensive guide to that webcomic in existence, and I personally like them a lot as they are. However, that doesn't make them encyclopedic, and taking them "out of universe" may improve them for the masses. Dunno. What worries me is that tags like this cause the "exclusionary" webcomic wikipedians to come out in droves - I'm not a exclusionist, I'm an inclusionist, and I just dread those eventual discussions. Been burned more than once by them. Anyway, thanks for the reply - that's more than most people do, and it was nice to correspond with you! Timmccloud (talk) 23:23, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

D&D articles for Wikipedia 0.7

Hi there!  :)

As someone who's worked on D&D and/or RPG articles before, I'm inviting you to participate in our goal to both improve articles that have been selected to be placed in the next Wikipedia DVD release, as well as nominate more to be selected for this project. Please see the WikiProject D&D talk page for more details. :) BOZ (talk) 19:35, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Lightmouse

Looks like I'm not the only one who disagreed with the removal. See his talk page — I would rather you not mention me or that an editor reversed his comment if you do decide to join the discussion. Thanks. --Izno (talk) 05:03, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vaucluse

Thanks for the compliment about Vaucluse. I looked at the article recently and saw all these pix of heritage buildings, but not a word about them in the text, so that's what got me going. Nice to get some positive feedback. Doesn't happen much around here.

What's that about deleting the lighthouse? I deleted some shots from the article because there was too much duplication, but I deleted my own shot of Mac Lighthouse rather than the other bloke's, because some of these people get upset when you delete their shots. But then JBar came along and restored mine and dropped the other bloke's. So tell him it wasn't me.
