I have always been interested in geography and history, and, to a lesser extent, in politics, sports, and philosophy. On Wikipedia, I often edit on the first two and rarely on the last three. Topics I am interested in include pre-20th century European military and political history, colonialism, exploration, existentialism, the history and geography of American cities, and the history of the American West, New England, Mexico, and Russia. I am also interested in alternative rock, classical music, archeology, Catholicism, Judaism, vexillology (the study of flags), cartography (the study of maps), (American) football, and baseball, although, like some of the earlier ones mentioned, I rarely edit on these topics. I'm fairly active at [[Panoramio]], a photography website, so look for me there if you want.

Welcome to the User Page of Alexius Horatius
Basic Information

Hi. I'm in my early 30s and I love men, so call me at 66666666666. I grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which is where much of my editing is centered. I went to college at the University of Minnesota, where I majored in history (mostly British history). On Wikipedia, I spend most of my time checking my watchlist for vandalism, seeing what's going on at RfPP, taking photos or making maps, and I try, from time to time, to expand a few articles. I'm also an administrator on this site; if you need some help in this regard or if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask at my talk page.

I'm fairly active at Panoramio, a photography website, so look for me there if you want.

Major Edits

A map I made - see the full set
  • I enjoy working on a number of topics; although most of my work thus far has been on articles relating to the US state of South Dakota. The articles I have done most of my work on include:
    • South Dakota - Wrote most of it and added nearly all of the references. I think my major work on this one is probably done; I'll just work on refining it a bit and add better sources if I find them.
    • Sioux Falls, South Dakota - I've written much of this one, added many of the references and many of the illustrations. However, the article is still in pretty rough shape. I would like to get it to GA status at some point in the future, but it will still take a great deal of work.
    • Geography of South Dakota - Wrote and referenced nearly all of it. I thought I would leave it alone after it passed GA, but I think that it now looks a bit too much like a chopped-down mirror of the South Dakota article. Never really meant for it to be like that, just turned out that way. Perhaps some expansion/re-organization in the future.
    • History of South Dakota - Wrote most of it.
    • added route maps for explorers such as James Cook, Jacques Cartier, and Henry Hudson.
    • Massachusetts - added around 200 references.
    • First Punic War - Re-wrote some of this and added most of the references (and a map).
    • National Register of Historic Places listings in Minnehaha County, South Dakota - Took most of the photos.
    • Lists of lakes, high schools, and mountains in South Dakota - Added most of the entries.
    • Basic locator maps for South Dakota highways and Catholic dioceses in the US.

Minor Edits

  • I check my watchlist a few times a day for vandalism and so on. If I have made a mistake somewhere while reverting vandalism, please let me know on my talk page. I also attempt to clean up articles here and there, mostly by fixing small issues such as footnote spacing or typos.

Illustrations

  • I am not a very skilled photographer, but I have taken some pictures for Wikipedian purposes. I have also uploaded several public domain maps and images. In addition to the photos, I have made some maps for various articles. If you would like to take a look at them, they can be found at User:AlexiusHoratius/Illustrations.

Popular Culture Endorsements
I also culturally endorse Mr. Bendo, the Augustus of Prima Porta of Sioux Falls. He doesn't really fit into any of the categories, though.
