Tulsi Pujan Diwas is an Hindu festival that is celebrated annually on 25 December. The plant Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) is planted and worshipped on the occasion.[1] In 2014, The festival was started by spiritual guru Asaram Bapu[2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. Devotees hold the belief that worshipping tulsi brings blessings from Krishna.[9]
In Hinduism, the tulsi plant is used for religious purposes. Hindus believe that Tulsi brings prosperity.[10][11][12]
Spiritual Importance of Tulsi in Hinduism
[edit]Tulsi is revered as a symbol of purity, devotion, and spirituality in Hinduism. It is believed that worshipping Tulsi cleanses soul and strengthen the bond with Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna.[13] The plant is also believed to bring prosperity good fortune to homes.[14]
Celebration
[edit]Shri Yog Vedant Seva Samiti organizes the celebration of Tulsi Pujan Diwas annually.[15][16][17][18] Believers commemorate the event by offering water, chandan, sindoor, rice, flowers and prasad to the plant.[19][7]
The celebration of Tulsi Pujan Diwas is marked by rituals that honor the sacredness of the Tulsi plant. Devotees light a diya.[20] Many devotees donate Tulsi plants to temples and plant new Tulsi saplings at home. Tulsi Pujan Diwas is a celebration of the profound spiritual, cultural, and medicinal significance of the Tulsi plant.[14]
