Humor?
[edit]Dwo, Sorry if I missed out on the joke. The message on the userbox, along with your caustic remark on your userpage, and with my knowledge of some of the problems that have occurred at JBU, led me to believe that it was a rather poignant response to those problems. However, it seems to imply a rather cold hearted intellectual atmosphere present at JBU, regardless of the above and may be better to alter it.~ The Rebel At ~ 18:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
THIS IS NOT POV!
[edit]The language used in this template is not advocating a point of view that JBU students are heartless creatures. If that were the POV that it is promoting, than I myself would be promoting a POV that I disagree with. I love JBU.
What this template is trying to do, in a humourous way, is make fun of the school's old motto. The old school's motto was "Head, Heart and Hand", and, despite it no longer being the official motto, it still appears in various places and still acts as a second motto of sorts. When you make contributions to Wikipedia, usually, you are using your hands to type characters on the keyboard; you use your mind to think about statements, but your heart has absolutely no function except its normal, involuntary pumping of blood to the organs while the head and hand are performing tasks that they wouldn't otherwise perform in a prone state. This statement is an inside joke meant to be understood by JBU students. In various other university userboxes, humourous statments are made and even statements that are (gasp) POV! Go Owls! Go 'Cats! Go Pirates! These are statments that actively promote a school and therefore are not NPOV. It would seem that that's okay. So, even if this were trying to promote a certain POV, why would that be bad? — D. Wo. 00:31, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- You explained the joke clearly, as all I needed was input to make sure it wasn't a depreciating comment against John Brown U. Students. Sense of humor is relative, so what may be amusing and clear to you, not so much to others. I can understand wanting to replace the neutral userbox on the Education page with your original one, but redirecting the neutral box to yours is overkill. I'll be restoring it to its own seperate existence, so it might exist for those who may not share your sense of humor or desire to include the joke in their representation of their collegiate experience.~ The Rebel At ~ 12:02, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
