"Professional"
[edit]I've removed the word professional from this, which was added a couple of days ago. As someone who has worked in the broadcasting industry (mostly on a voluntary basis) for over 20 years, it's pretty clear that the distinction between a professional broadcaster and a volunteer on a PBS or student radio or television station or in some similar capacity elsewhere is not entirely clear-cut. Many "amateur" staff are paid in kind, by way of perks or similar, to the extent that calling someone a "non-professional" broadcaster is about as useful as the old days of "non-professional" Olympic athletes. Grutness...wha? 06:31, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, the only reason I added that word was for formatting reasons: the template text doesn't look so good when the top and bottom lines of text are of the same length, and the two images makes it impossible to fit the whole thing onto one line without fiddling with the font. Thanks for the correction! -Silence 19:03, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- I just wanted to agree with Grutness. The word professional is unnecessary. I was going to reverse the change myself. There are heaps of people who broadcast without getting a salary. (I myself have been a part-time broadcaster for 6 years and never paid, but am now looking for paid work.) I think I'll stop worrying about userboxes now and get back to writing an encyclopedia.
