User Box Option Preferences

[edit]

As a purely subjective matter, I like the 5th box down the most, and the 1st, 2nd, and 6th boxes the least. The current template is fine, though. --jonsafari 05:28, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and have updated the template accordingly. As a note to those who disagree: If you prefer one of these other options to the current template, you don't have to use the template (which will change over time). You can copy and paste the code above for any box and put it directly into your article. NThurston 13:46, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I like the last two. What is with the weird Y? It seems the top of the 'Y' on the right side seems chopped off or something... Other than that, great options! Chupper 22:39, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the "Y" looks odd. I don't know how to make these userboxes, but I would like to add a BYU one to my userpage. Couldn't the B and the U be at one font size, and the Y be a little bigger, but still of the same font? --Eric Bekins 18:40, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to make a little change in the current style. What do you think? I like the tan bars over the blue field in the left side box. I just changed the font and sizes. Comments? --Eric Bekins 23:13, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, the font looks different to me now from home, rather than on my work computer. At work I use IE 6.0, but here at home I'm looking at this with Netscape 8.1 based on Firefox, and it looks fine. The "Y" in the main template looks just right, and the edited user box I tried this afternoon looks wrong. When I look at the code for the font of the box that's in use, I see the "Y" is listed as typeface called fantasy, and the B and the U are sans-serif. What I tried to do with my attempt was to make all three the same font, arial, as opposed to having the Y a separate one. But I have to admit that looking at it now from home with a Netscape browser, it looks fine as is and I wouldn't change anything. --Eric Bekins 02:25, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since we can't agree on one design, then I would be happy to create a switch that allows people to choose from several options. Stay tuned for instructions on how to choose your favorite of styles 1 -9. Before I do that, though, if you have any further suggestions, now is the time to get them noted.--NThurston 14:10, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fantasy vs. sans-serif

[edit]

I changed the font family of the letter Y to match the other two letters. the Y was of the font "fantasy," and every browser I use made it look different in each one. I don't see why it shouldn't be all the same font-family. The size of the letter is what makes it different and close to the actual BYU logo.--Eric Bekins 05:42, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see my suggestion was reversed. I'm still trying to understand why all three letters can't be of the same font. By having them of different fonts, each browser is going to interpret that font differently. If all letters were of the same font they would at least all match in whatever browser was being used. I recently upgraded my home computer to Windows Vista with IE 7 and the letter "Y" looked like it was written in cursive between the two block letters "B" and "U". That's what propmted me to make the change to all the same font. If this template is owned by one user, then I will understand and not make any more suggestions. I'm just trying to understand the reasons against what I'm suggesting.--Eric Bekins 16:38, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am proposing to make the template available to all users in any of the 9 formats shown above. Is the format that you want one of those 9? --NThurston 16:54, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The parameterization is finished. Use {{User BYU|9}} or whatever other option you want. 5 is the default so that it will not change on current users' pages unless they do something about it. --NThurston 18:46, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Design

[edit]

For anyone who liked the old design better, I've moved it to {{User BYU old}}. It should work the same way it always has. --Jmjosh90 03:52, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
