Hi, can someone please re-add the row "|none = background:lightgray; color:black;" that was removed by accident? It's making cells that were previously colored in with gray uncolored. Thanks65.95.131.24 (talk) 01:58, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:39, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New tribe colors

[edit]

Not sure why all of the tribe colors were changed, as they seemed fine before hand... If it's possible to revert that edit to bring back the original colors, please do so. If not, at least change the color of "none" to lightgray, as the new color matches the darkgray used in the voting history tables. Thanks.--108.11.219.83 (talk) 03:37, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I reverted the edits back to how they originally were.--TheDevin13 (talk) 01:54, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why is the font white? I think it'd be fine as black, and a bit easier on the eyes. ~ Totaldramaman (talk · contribs) 10:02, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Galang/Coyopa/Merica

[edit]

There is a problem with the colors of Galang and Coyopa: Galang is officially a yellow tribe and Coyopa is an orange tribe, but in the wiki, Galang's color is darkest than Coyopa's. Personally, I think that both colors should be changed: Galang should be lighter and Coyopa darker (if it can help: Galang buff Galang flag Coyopa buff Coyopa flag).

Also, I've already said it in Worlds Apart's talk page, but no one answered me: the Merica color should definetely be black, and not this strange "not-so-black-not-so-purple" which was never used in-game. Since black is the main color of the buff (see here) and the only color of the flag (see here), there should be no question. There have been other buffs with a secondary color, but all of them only kept their main color in the wiki, so I don't understand the problem with Merica's one. 90.34.244.227 (talk) 20:30, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cambodia Merge Color

[edit]

Next episode is the merge, and as shown in these press photos (http://insidesurvivor.com/2015/10/survivor-second-chance-episode-7-press-photos/), the merge color is orange.

The buff can be seen here: http://insidesurvivor.com/2015/10/survivor-second-chance-merge-buff/ TDI19 (talk) 20:44, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mana Tribe

[edit]

This is the picture for the Mana Buff: Mana Buff Looks very much like a red-orange color but most certainly is not a Vanua shade of Orange. VietPride10 (talk) 01:02, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To add to this, it was recently changed from D22D15 to FF2E00; I changed it back because the latter was far too bright/orange when looking at the buff, and because there was no discussion beforehand. Tholden28 (talk) 18:43, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposing a comprehensive tribe color revamp

[edit]

Hello all! This is AvvA, a newcomer to the Survivor Task Force.

For the past few days I have been collecting design images of the Buffs used on Survivor (not photographs of the buffs themselves, but digital mock-ups showing their original design). From Tocantins onwards, every tribe's Buff has had its design mock-up made available on sites such as CBS Store or PlanetBuff during the time they are sold there, and some mock-ups even exist for Buffs from earlier seasons.

I personally believe that the main (background) color of a tribe's Buff should be considered that tribe's definitive color, as the color of the flags can sometimes be different from that of the Buffs and chyrons (Rattana's flag was a dark green while Chuay Jai's flag was metallic gold), and the color of the chyrons can sometimes also be different from that of the Buffs and flags (Viveros and Enil Edam both had emerald-green chyrons but their Buffs and flags were more of a lime green, while black tribes always had silver chyrons until Redemption Island).

With this in mind, I obtained the exact color values of the main color on each tribe's Buff that I could find (this is usually the most saturated color or the color located on the left and right edges of the buff) and compiled an archive of tribe colors that are as accurate as can be. For Buffs whose mock-ups are not available, I resorted to looking through photographs taken of these Buffs under neutral lighting and making my own adjustments and approximations, even comparing the relative color differences amongst Buffs of similar colors.

For some tribes, however, the mock-ups were obviously not representative of the finished product. Villains' Buff mock-up had a very dark wine red, Upolu's had a very dark sea blue, while Matsing's had an overly bright electric blue, none of which are close to the colors we saw on screen. For those rare outliers, I tweaked the brightness levels and saturation somewhat, but left the hues untouched.

Some interesting things to note:

  • The Micronesia buffs had very dense, intricate details in pure white overlaid on top of their backgrounds, making their colors seem like pale washed-out pastel shades when viewed from afar, but the background colors themselves are actually quite intense and rich orange, purple, and lime green. The colors of their flags and challenge props are also consistent with this.
  • Merica, Dara, and Lavita are very rare instances of the in-show chyrons acknowledging the secondary colors on the buffs. Merica's chyrons had a purple tint, Dara's had a very slight brown shade, and Lavita's was bluish-purplish-grey, reflecting the accent colors on their respective buffs and challenge pennants. For these special cases, I feel that an averaging of the accent color and the main color (black) should be acceptable.

I am volunteering to update our tribe color data with the data I currently have, and am writing to seek the approval from the rest of the Task Force. To my knowledge, this is probably the most accurate we can possibly get to the actual colors unless we somehow obtain every Buff ever produced and scanned them with a color-calibrated scanner all in one go.

Thanks!

Yes, please update the tribe colors, it would be great! :) VietPride10 (talk) 06:48, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, I feel they are good the way they are but if you do change them hive us a list of what the old colors are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Superspoiler1234 (talkcontribs) 18:47, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The colors beforehand were too light/dark and are not as accurate as the new colors. I looked at the new changes, and they seemed to match the tribe colors more accurately so I'm glad they were changedVietPride10 (talk) 19:07, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

IOI Tribe color suggestion

I think these should be the new colors! The purple with black letters just don't look right.

Balancing Koro Savu and Soli Bula's primary and accent colors

[edit]

This is something that has been on my mind for a while, and the recent edit has led me to come write about it on the talk page.

Since Sinjoh2015 noted, the Koro Savu and Soli Bula buffs are black with gold and red accents respectively. Usually, tribe colors on this template don't take accent colors into account, but the exception is when the accent colors are explicitly acknowledged in the in-show lower third texts. In such cases, I've gone for an averaging between that tribe's particular accent color and black (which has always been the background color every time this has happened)—this has been the rationale behind my selections for the colors of Merica, Dara, and Lavita on this template, to seemingly positive reception thus far.

I think that, for the sake of consistency, this rule should apply for these two tribes as well. Sure, when Koro Savu's lower thirds were in gold, we thought that was just a continuation of Australian Survivor's habit of always using gold text for the merge tribe, but when Soli Bula's texts showed up in red it became fairly clear that the chyrons were actually acknowledging the secondary colour of the buff—and they had been during the previous season as well.

Now, I agree that the previous colour used for Soli Bula (the wine red) was way too bright, and neither evoked the main black colour of the buff nor looked sufficiently like the red accent colour. I propose that on this template, the two tribes should be represented by a black that is almost near a pure black, but with a definite tint of their respective accent hues that doesn't become immediately obvious.

Let me know if this is approvable! Thanks.

I second this. At least, I'd say a gradient would work. E.G.:
  • Koro Savu
  • Soli Bula
  • Lava
  • Fa'amolemole
If not, maybe just the color font:
  •  Koro Savu
  •  Soli Bula
  •  Lava
  •  Fa'amolemole

Survivor 41 colors and names

[edit]

In recent TV ads for the next season, they have revealed the colors of the three starting tribes, and also their names.

This ad shows the blue name on the mat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBGkvPMyzVY

This ad shows the yellow and green names on the flags they carry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94rvPbwDQEk

Luvu, Ua and Yase. Is it alright if I add the colors and names to this template and the stribe name template? There has been no official announcement of who is on who, but this is just to prepare for when they do announce, as we know the colors and names already. ~ KryptoBit (talk) 06:45, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comprehensive tribe color revamp, take 2

[edit]

Hi, all,

Some months ago, a reddit user posted a link to a YouTube video of their Survivor Buff collection. The collection contained at least one of pretty much every single Buff design ever printed for American Survivor from Borneo to Winners at War (even including the unused Palau merge Buff and the unused Island of the Idols expansion tribe Buff—in fact, the only design missing from it was probably the unused gray Redemption Island Buff for 22). The video was also shot with a high-quality camera, with each Buff laid flat on a neutral surface, and the white balance was calibrated well across shots.

This absolute treasure of a YouTube video has since become unlisted, and the Reddit post has since been removed from r/survivor (possibly because of low engagement). As a result, I am unable to properly attribute credit to the person who made the postings. If anyone here on Wikipedia recalls the name of the poster, please direct me to them as I feel I should thank them properly.

Before the video disappeared, however, I was able to take screenshots of every Buff showcased, calibrate their colors (basically by setting pure white areas on the Buffs as the white point and pure black areas as the black point for each shot in Photoshop), and log them in a comprehensive tribe color index on my computer.

The new colors arrived at via this method, I feel, are superior to the ones I used for my previous tribe color revamp (my thoughts on which can be read in an earlier section on this Talk Page). I have long noticed that, for many Buffs, even the official design mockups released online by Buff sellers fail to represent the actual colors of the physical printed Buffs. I imagine that, unless the original uploader of the video (or someone with an equally extensive Buff collection) takes a calibrated color sensor to each and every one of his Buffs, these colors are the closest one can possibly get to the true, accurate tribe colors on each season of American Survivor. The best sources for Buff colors for 41 and 42, however, seem to still be the CBS Store images for the time being.

With images of the 42 Buffs now being released on CBS Store, I am thinking of updating not just the colors of the 42 tribes, but those of every tribe in American Survivor according to the updated tribe color index that I now have thanks to this elusive collector. Let me know if this is approvable—I can make the edits right away.

Авария·витиевАтая 19:13, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing as there have been no responses so far, I'm going to simply make the edits. I genuinely feel that the new colors will be closer to an ideal level of accuracy.

Accessibility especially for the colorblind

[edit]

Admins and other editors raised concerns over and over that the colors used to represent tribes may not comply with MOS:COLOR. Past discussions: (not limited to) Talk:Survivor: Borneo, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television, and Survivor task force. BTW, an editor provided the link to Snook's Colour Contrast Check, which can help determine whether the color is suitable for accessibility. Also, what to do about colors of the merged tribe? I wonder whether they are redundant or not. Colors of original and swapped tribes can stay, IMO. George Ho (talk) 00:04, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What does the contrast ratio have to be in order for it to be seen as acceptable? Buttman0944 (talk) 04:01, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Plug the color codes for the font color and background color into this page - https://snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html#fg=33FF33,bg=333333 - and the bottom four boxes in the last table must say YES. Bgsu98 (talk) 03:06, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Calena (Survivor UK 2023)

Hi! The color for Calena, indeed, is pink; however, the chyron and the Buff indicates it is a pinkish vivid red. Freddy7GL (talk) 22:24, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Selatan

[edit]

In Survivor South Africa: Champions, Selatan's flag is white, and the Buff is grayish, not yellowish. Freddy7GL (talk) 21:28, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The colors for the original tribes do not seem to match with the Buffs; instead, they seem to be taken from the background of the castaways' promotional pictures. My suggestion would be to use web-safe colors that match:  Titans (#6CF)  and  Rebels (#C36) .
