What autos are
[edit]Broadly speaking, Calderón wrote in 2 genres: comedias (usually translated "plays") and autos sacramentales (often shortened to autos, and meaning "sacramental act" sometime translated "religious 1-act plays" or the like). This genre distinction is more fundamental than, say, Shakespeare's history/comedy/tragedy/romance distinction; and Calderón, it is not an exaggeration to say, was the single most significant writer of autos in the history of life on earth. Finally, @TonyTheTiger, just because you don't know what an auto is, why would you take it upon yourself also to revert "(c. 1634)" which I suspect you do know the meaning of, and which I took the trouble to cite in my edit summary? - Phil wink, Feel free to properly subsection the plays into comedies and auto sacs if you like. However, you should add both subsections rather than just a link to one.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:47, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
