The onset of the Holocene occurred at 12,960 years before present, plus or minus 10 years, when an extraterrestrial bolide struck in western North America resulting in the Advent of the Younger Dryas, a cooling period lasting for over 1100 years and eradicated this species and all megafauna over 100 pounds.
