I believe that a separate template should be made for defunct stores prior to the 2006 merger. I am open to debate, but there are dozens and dozens of stores that are Wiki notable and could be listed. Without playing favorites, there is not really any other good way to handle it. However, if there is a strong opinion a new line of notable earlier defunct stores could be included, but it should be equitable in its inclusion of most wiki notable stores. For example, go to the what links here pages of each of the chains listed on the current template and add all the predecessors found.TonyTheTiger 17:47, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Taking that suggestion to heart, I am now working on a template which takes into account ALL nameplates incorporated into Macy's, including the 2006 crop from May Company. While it may have been this group that truly pushed Macy's into its current status as a national retailer (well, all but 5 states, but that's another discussion...), I really believe that it may be fairer put them with the other historic chains. — ArkansasTraveler 14:58, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- The split of historic nameplates is now complete into the Macy's history template, with several names added to the 2006-merged names. Possibly the only notable name not currently in the template (because of a lack of an article on the subject) is O'Connor, Moffat & Co., the first predecessor to Macy's in California, and the bedrock for Macy's West. — ArkansasTraveler 23:20, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
