Don't break templates
[edit]Hey @RIP_B1058 don't break templates like you just did. If you've done this same change on any other template page, please revert it. You removed the train line name. Ergzay (talk) 10:00, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- I have just started this template discussion on my talk,page —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 10:04, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Actually the reason is that template doesnt work for terminus and interchange stations so i needed to remove it. no one uses and i need the colouring of infobox header as blue, green, etc. So i am addig it to all metro stations and manualling writing like "Kolkata metro interchange". Pleaee undo your revert as i dont want two-revert rule template edit ban. Just visit any metro station like dakshineswar metro station page listed in documentation and just watch the conflict in infobox of what i need vs what this template gives. I first tried to add but since i dint know template working this code was not giving edit results i needed in edit previews. —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 10:09, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- @RIP B1058 I understand that my revert caused some conflict on some pages, however this template is the standard way that railway lines across wikipedia are represented. Rather than just removing info from the template to repurpose it for your needs you should improve the template. For example you can add a true/false parameter if it's a terminus, and it'll change "station" to "terminus". I can help you with the template language if you need to. - Can you do it i have zero experience with template handling —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 10:52, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- @RIP B1058There's no need to rush. You can take the time and learn how to do it. Templates have associated sandboxes for testing them as well. You can also make sample edits to the template and then test it with any given page via the "Preview page with this template" box at the bottom of the edit dialogue. You can also create a sandbox page inside your user space for testing page edits with.
- As a side question, why do you want to have "terminus" in the description of the station? I'm not aware of any other station pages on wikipedia that do that. All other terminus stations simply call themselves "station". Ergzay (talk) 11:03, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Looks like whoever used this was wrong as other cities use station as in Civil Court metro station (interchange) and Vanaz metro station (terminus). So was I attempting a kinda of good faithful edit where inital edit was wrong. Oh shit. Then my bad. I retract my aim. —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 11:16, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Also if i need i can write manually outside the template like "...... station" (template end) and terminus. —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 11:24, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

- @RIP B1058 So I was looking into this template, and there's this weird bit.
{{#ifeq:{{{system2}}}|CR|<br>{{ric|CR|name=y}} station|}}
. This inserts the text " China Railway station" if the "system2" parameter is set to "CR". It seems to be leftovers of the person who copied it in. I asked them on their talk page where they got it from. But for the meantime all the infobox templates on this search probably have the same issue. This can safely be deleted from all those infobox templates as it literally does nothing for the template. Ergzay (talk) 12:51, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

- You can also look at other station line templates and borrow template data from them. Ergzay (talk) 10:51, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Ergzay aside from this solved terminus issue, one issue lies that line 2 or grren line has a different operator with different logo how to manage —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 11:47, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- And an interchange called Esplanade listed in documentation uses both logo as 2 from one operator and one from another operator. —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 11:50, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure what you mean by different operator. Is it not part of the Kolkata Metro? Or does the Kolkata Metro have multiple companies that operate it? If it's the former, then it should have it's own adjacent stations module page created, if it's the latter, then the Kolkata Metro template should maybe be renamed and a new page created with a new name for the other company. Ergzay (talk) 12:56, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- All lines except green has operator as Metro Railway, Kolkata as green line is operated by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, both have different logos. So need to do something for green stations to use this template and esplanade interchange has both stations so if we use logo both must be used. —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 13:03, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Wise idea is to remove the logo like Template:Pune_Metro_Infobox_station_line/doc, isnt it? A operator logo is already there in top right corner of every metro station of Kolkata if you switch to desktop of Wikipedia. —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 13:13, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- @RIP B1058 As a general rule, if it's accurate for some pages, then don't remove it and instead expand it to support additional options. Ergzay (talk) 13:42, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- If accuracy is needed, duplication is also not needed —🪦NΛSΛ B1058 (TALK) 13:44, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
