[edit]From http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Irish
I·rish(rsh) adj. Of or relating to Ireland or its people, language, or culture. n. 1. (used with a pl. verb) The people of Ireland. 2. a. See Irish Gaelic. b. See Irish English. 3. Informal Fieriness of temper or passion; high spirit.
Stubacca, the reason for my edit is that the current template title is misleading if it redirects to only part of Ireland. Would you like to create a "Republic of Irish" one?

Unless anyone has a problem with it, I'd like to change this template back to the last version.

- Object, this template is only used for politicians from Republic of Ireland, not for the entire island. Ben W Bell talk 14:22, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Then it has the wrong name.
Lapsed Pacifist 11:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
So which is it to be, folks? Shall we change the name or allow it to redirect correctly?
Lapsed Pacifist 13:28, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
I've changed the name, but... Isaac Butt from the Republic of Ireland? Wouldn't it be much simpler to just say Ireland, rather than giving the name of a state that didn't exist until decades after his death? Your thoughts?

- If someone is pre-partition then it has to be Ireland, no matter whether they are from north or south as there was only Ireland. Ben W Bell talk 07:19, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. As we have a six-county shape for the northeast template, I reckon we should have a twenty-six county shape for the rest of the country, and have the shamrock for pre-partition Ireland. What do you reckon?
Lapsed Pacifist 10:43, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- The six county shape has been used for Northern Ireland due to the massive debates raging over whether it has a flag or not. The six county symbol was a compromise. I'd say for the Republic of Ireland ones the tricolour should be used, as it's the flag of that country, but yes a shamrock being used for pre-partition sounds good. Ben W Bell talk 07:15, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Cool with me.
Lapsed Pacifist 16:33, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Use of Tricolour
[edit]The reason the shamrock is used in this template, is because this template is also used for pre-independence (pre-partition) politicians. Using the flag of a nation that didn't exist when they were politically active, doesn't make sense. Snappy (talk) 14:24, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
