Initial creation

[edit]

This template was created to address an issue that User_talk:Jfdwolff had with Template:DiseaseDisorder infobox. Additional context for the origin of this template is available on that talk page. --Arcadian 15:19, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Whitespace fixes

[edit]

{{editprotected}}

This edit introduced unwanted whitespace with a new line. It also locked an interwiki link onto the wrong page (it should be on /doc), because the admin then protected the page. Ideally this should be unprotected, but if that's not going to happen then the above needs fixed ASAP. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 10:28, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whitespace ? I don't see it. At least not in areas that are actually included into pages. iw removed. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 11:50, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My bad. Misread. Disabled editprot. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 15:41, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Differential diagnosis

[edit]

Wondering if we should add links for [Diagnosispro http://en.diagnosispro.com/] to this template? The guy who created this site really does an exhaustive differential. Something I do not think Wikipedia should attempt but would be interesting for those who read.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:59, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure how useful this site really is - it generates a list of conditions from just single permitted symptom (i.e. one can enter "cough" or "fever", but not "cough, fever").
Search link structure from using the site's searchbox seems to be for 'foo' http://en.diagnosispro.com/free/search_results/?q=foo&w=5 and "+" used in place of space, so for 'foo bar' http://en.diagnosispro.com/free/search_results/?q=foo+bar&w=5. However "+" is not essential and the site takes spaces too. I've no idea what the "&w=5" is for, lower values (eg "&w=4") accepted and seem generate a different number of hits, and this can be left out entirely, i.e. http://en.diagnosispro.com/free/search_results/?q=foo also works.
If others can confirm usefulness of this site, then easy to include, perhaps along lines of a parameter DiagnosisPro outputing:
DiagnosisPro <DiagnosisPro value>
(we could specify separate parameters of DiagnosisProID and DiagnosisProName, with the '..ID' parameter giving the formal search string with "+" used for spaces and the '..Name' display parameter the displayed text - but seems unnecessarily complex, given the forgiving nature of the website's search input) David Ruben Talk 02:16, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Site also allows for listing differential causes and clinical manefestations of a named condition, something one might consider for Template:Infobox Disease, but coding is harder: eg http://en.diagnosispro.com/differential_diagnosis-for/asthma-causes/12929-154.html and http://en.diagnosispro.com/disease_information-for/clinical-manifestations-asthma/10910-104.html
These would need paired parameters of DiagnosisProDifferentialID, DiagnosisProDifferentialText and DiagnosisProManifestationsID, DiagnosisProManifestationsText to provide links and display details. David Ruben Talk 02:29, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I do agree that having the site able to figure out what conditions have two symptoms would be great and would be easy to do depending on the setup of the sites database. This is not really an aspect that we need at Wikipedia however. We just need complete lists of conditions that can be causes by a symptom and differentials of diseases so that editors will not try to replicate these long lists on Wikipedia. I wonder if the 4 and 5 refer to version of diagnosis pro?
So what is the next step in adding this to the info box?Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:52, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Increasing image size to match disease box

Should we increase the image size for consistency? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 23:06, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To reflect more recent, less outdated material, change "{MeshYear|2009}" to "{MeshYear|2015}". Gamingforfun365 (talk) 08:12, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A redirect?

[edit]

The undoer stated that it no longer had a separate function from Template:Infobox disease, but I have found it useful, for it helped for me to determine whether conditions were diseases or symptoms. Has there been a consensus for the redirection? Gamingforfun365 (talk) 23:48, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hum. Good point. User:CFCF what do you think? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 21:44, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Outwardly they don't look different as it is and creating a new infobox only for the benefit of editors-with all which that entails: maintaining, updating, installing several new templates in different languages etc. is just not worth it. One solution that was used in Template:Infobox anatomy was to add a |class= parameter which can then be filled with either symptom or disease etc. It of course is a small effort to do so, but if we get someone who can automate the process it could be worth doing. Redirect the page to Template:Infobox medical condition (new) instead, to fix a double redirect. SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:42, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the eventual objective of Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2019 February 7#Template:Infobox medical condition is for the content to end up back at Template:Infobox medical condition, it seems prudent to check what the expected timescale is. Pinging Zackmann08 and Doc James who seem to have a handle on it. Cabayi (talk) 14:55, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, if this is something that will be fixed in a few days it may be better not to fix the redirects just to fix them back a few days later. If this is something that's going to take several weeks, however, it would probably be worthwhile. Thanks for the comment and pings.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:05, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Okay have fixed the double redirect. No the plan is not to drop the "(new)" as doing so makes the inter language links confusing. By the way this template is not used at all in main space. https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special%3AWhatLinksHere&target=Template%3AInfobox+symptom&namespace=0
