Date problem

[edit]

Sadads edited Henri Aldebert (diff) to use {{Infobox sportsperson/Wikidata}} instead of {{Infobox sportsperson}} and to add |fetchwikidata = ALL. The article is displaying errors for both the birth and death dates. The reason is that the article infobox includes:

| birth_date = {{birth date|1880|8|8|df=yes}}
| death_date = {{death date and age|1961|4|24|1880|8|8|df=yes}}

Because these assign values to birth_date and death_date, those values are passed to {{Birth-date}} and {{Death-date}}. However, the values include date metadata and that causes the latter two templates to give the error message.

A second problem is that editing the article and previewing the edit (with no changes) shows:

Warning: Page using Template:Infobox sportsperson with unknown parameter "fetchwikidata"

I cannot see where that parameter is used so it should not be added?

One fix to the article would be to revert the recent edit to make it independent of Wikidata—that would suit some discussions I've seen and would fix the problem. Another fix would be to remove the fields from the infobox in the article to make it fully dependent on Wikidata—that would be bold. Regardless of that, I thought I would document the date problem in case a fix is ever needed. Johnuniq (talk) 05:35, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Johnuniq:: I am only adding it where there is a clear opportunity for improving the page: I must have not fully processed that part of the infobox display (I am mostly focused on calling images into biographies). @Mike Peel and Zyxw: do you have a sense of what is not working here? @Johnuniq and Sadads: Sorry, I just noticed this. This infobox was using rather old code for the Wikidata integration, so I've upgraded it. It now supports fetchwikidata, and the problems above should be resolved. It also now only shows referenced information from Wikidata, which may have led to changes in how it displays in some articles. Please let me know if you spot any more problems. Thanks. Country

[edit]

Hello! I'm testing with migrating infoboxes to Wikidata and have noticed that this template uses country of citizenship (P27), but there's also country for sport (P1532) which may be more applicable. I don't know what the best solution here is, but I think to align it with the main infobox, the best way would be to have "citizenship" and "country" (under "Sport") be separate.
